Marching Band |
Description |
"Music department head Anne Maud Shamel established the Kent State marching band in 1919 and it began playing at football games as a field band as early as 1920. Pictured here are members of the 1928 band. The following year, Roy D. Metcalf assumed directorship in a career that would last until his death in 1957." Photograph appears on page 20 of Kent State University Athletics. According to the 1929 Burr, where a similar photograph appears, the band was formed in part through the efforts of Florence A. Sublette and first appeared at a football game in fall 1928. |
