Caption: "Standing close to the entrance of San Francisco Bay is Alcatraz Island, recently established as a Federal Prison by the Government. The island is about 20 acres in extent and completely isolated by water. It is surmounted by one of the most powerful lights on the Pacific Coast standing 214 feet above mean high water and acts as a guide for ships entering the Golden Gate."
