Description Jim Hallett came to Kent State University in the fall of 1968 to study architecture and accept an invitation to join the track team. In this oral history, he shares his eyewitness account of the shootings from his vantage point, first at the Student Union as the rally was beginning to form, then from the balcony of Taylor Hall, and finally from the Prentice Hall parking lot as the shots were being fired. He found Donald Scott Mackenzie, who had been shot in the face, helped him get up and walk to his car, and drove him to the hospital in Ravenna. He goes on to describe his experiences during the aftermath of the shootings, including changing his career to psychology and counseling.
